Professional Experience

• Page Designer, Copy Editor & Social Media director

  
  Havre Daily News, Havre, MT summer 2010 - present

  The Havre Daily News is a daily newspaper serving North Central Montana. It has a circulation of about 4,000. Responsible for the layout and design of most non-advertisment pages each day, including front page. Responsible for most maps, charts, and infographics in local stories. Part of the team that refreshed the design and layout of the paper, including typographic choices. Also responsible, along with Zach White, for coordinating the Havre Daily News' social media efforts on Facebook and Twitter.

• Communications Specialist

  
  The Bio-Energy Center, Havre, MT summer 2009 - summer 2010

  The Bio-Energy Center is a biofuels research and testing laboratory based out of Montana State University Northern. Was responsible for the design and implimentation of all promotional and marketing materials, design and maintenance of the Bio-Energy Center's website, and some public relations writing. Was responsible for a full branding effort, including logo, color scheme, merchandising, uniforms, and some interior office design.

• Design & Marketing Contractor

  
  North Central Montana Transit, Havre, MT spring 2009 - winter 2010

  Worked with the transit board of directors to create and maintain a unique brand identity for a startup public transit system. Responsible for the design and maintenance of the NCM Transit website. Responsible for the design and implimentation of promotional and informational materials, and the decal designs of the busses.

• Substitute Teacher

  
  Havre Public Schools, Havre, MT spring 2009

  Worked as a substitute teacher and paraprofessional in middle and high-school classrooms, both alone and as a teacher’s assistant. Followed existing lesson plans, and improvised some classroom discussions and activities.

• Writer, Editor, Designer, Publisher

  
  The Filthy Lucre, Havre, MT fall 2006 - spring 2009

  An alternative, underground satirical broadside-style publication serving Montana State University Northern. The Filthy Lucre continues to be published under new student management. Wrote most of the articles that saw publication. Controlled all aspects of the paper’s design, typography, and layout. Edited and supervised all aspects of the publication. Printed and distributed the Filthy Lucre on a regular weekly basis. Designed and maintained a simple website archiving back issues of the Lucre.

  The Northern Light, Havre, MT fall 2006 - spring 2008

  A student run campus newspaper serving Montana State University Northern and the surrounding community. Initially worked as the primary photographer for the newspaper, and contributed a regular political/social opinion column(fall 2006 to spring 2007). Later became co-editor in charge of design and publication, and designed a new, magazine style format for the newspaper (fall 2007 to spring 2008).

  A family owned take-out and delivery restaurant.. Served as the primary delivery person for eight years in a time-sensitive, high performance field involving driving and direct customer interaction. Performed various in-house services including cleaning, phone orders, and sales.

Volunteer Work

• Northern Cinema After Dark, Havre, MT Summer 2008

  Organized, scheduled, and facilitated a weekly outdoor theater at MSU-Northern, free to the general public, showing films and ephemera which have fallen into the public domain. Created promotional materials, website, composited dvds for each week, and worked closely with the university administration to facilitate and promote the events.

• Yellow Bus Film Festival, Havre, MT 2008-2011

  Processed student-produced digital shorts into DVD compilations, and participated in the judging panels for the student short film contests for the annual Yellow Bus Film Festival.

• Boys & Girls Club, Havre, MT Spring 2007

  Computer lab volunteer. Assisted children with technical skill development, informal Photoshop and digital photography tutoring, general supervision.

• Human Resources Development Council, District IV, Havre, MT 2004

  Involved in the Child Mentoring program, mentored a 12 year-old single-parent child. Assisted with homework, attended various entertainment events, encouraged physical activity.

  Created the winning entry for Opportunity Link’s contest to name and design a new masthead for their quarterly newsletter, now called Connections.
